The Efik National Association, inc., USA, has held its 25th anniversary and National Convention in Orlando, Florida in the United States of America.
The chairman of the occasion, Elder Awatt E. Awatt, congratulated the Association for its steadfastness to its ideals of uniting the Efiks in America and fostering the Efik culture as well as contributing to the welfare of its members and those at home.
In his address, the National President of Efik National Association, incorporated, USA, Mr. Emmanuel Nsemoh, commended the founders of the Association, the board of trustees, and the members for their show of love and support towards the actualization of the programs of the Association.
Mr. Nsemoh listed some of the achievements of the Association, including three successful free medical missions to Calabar, where over eight thousand people benefited.
Others included a scholarship program for Efik sons and daughters in tertiary institutions, a proposed life insurance scheme for its members, and the establishment of the Association's youth forum for leadership.
The National President disclosed the Association's plans to build a community center in Atlanta to propagate the rich Efik culture, language, dances, and folklore and solicited support.
The well-attended, colorful event displayed the rich Efik culture amidst pomp and pageantry.
Some of the dignitaries who attended the event included past Presidents of the Association, who were given awards for their meritorious services to the Association, and the wife of the late chairman of the board of trustees, Mrs. Grace Asuquo Ukpong, among others.
Highlights were the presentation of goodwill messages from the Obong of Calabar, Edidem Ekpo Okon Abasi Otu v and that of the chairman of Obong of Calabar Executive Forum, Chief Gershom Henshaw.
